Autistic Hoya: 15 Things You Should Never Say To An Autistic: Trigger warning: Quotes of things that shouldn't be said. They can be ableist and triggering. Edit 17 Apr. 2012: After receiving a ...
Hello my audience, my name is Christopher Tucker. I have high functioning autism. I have suffered from this all my life. I do not have a lot of friends because of this disability. I have a hard time finding a good job because of my problems with speech. People think im retarded because they don't know anything about autism and like to assume. I am a rare breed in college because according to a 2012 article by the Huffington Post, only 14 percent of people with ASDs started college in 2011. I feel that because people like me are rare breed in college and in real life that I feel like an outsider. I am not a conventional thinker and I am a creative and artistic person. I once read a statement on a popular ASD message board wrongplanet.net which said that Neurotypicals want group approval while people on the ASD spectrum are more about the individual. I agree with this because when I was younger I did not get why we had to fit in with the crowd, why we all had to be punished when one person messed up. I also didn't get why some people made comments without doing any research. Over the years I found out why they did this and tried to fit in and adhere to social norms myself. I hope by starting this blog I get to connect with other people on the ASD spectrum and their friends and family.
